Photographs Are Never Still

Photographs Are Never Still
November 26, 2018 No CommentsPhotographs Are Never Still is based around the Grafton Regional Gallery’s publication of the same name from the Lindt Researh Project. Some indigenous artefacts and works of art that contributed to the book will go on show.
These photographs by John William Lindt form a collection of historically and aesthetically important photographs of the Clarence Valley. The collection includes thirty seven portraits, seven landscapes and a panoramic landscape. The photographs were taken in the Clarence Valley between 1871 and 1875.
The limits of the technology of photography caused Lindt to invite the people into his studio to be photographed. The beautiful portraits, though posed, convey a unique insight into the lives of the Aboriginal peoples, local flora and the early European settlers in the Grafton area.
