The Society provides a service for the general public to research enquiries into the history of people, places or events relevant to the Yamba area. Our Research Officer, John McNamara has won a Royal Australian Historical Society Achievement Award for his research work and publications for the Society.

Our collection includes over 2,000 historical photos as well as documents and records such as:

  • local school photos and enrolment registers dating back to 1882
  • microfilm of local newspapers, indexed and dating back to 1859
  • registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages in the Clarence for periods between 1859-1910
  • Electoral Rolls 1869 – 1982
  • pre-1900 Clarence River Pioneer Register
  • early Land Selection on the Clarence River 1862 – 1869 and the Richmond River 1862 – 1866
  • index of passengers and crew in and out of the Clarence River from newspaper articles 1860 – 1865, 1866 – 1869
  • a database of historical property ownership
  • minutes of the Yamba Urban Area Committee
  • minutes of the School of Arts
  • books and information files on topics such as family histories, Aboriginal peoples, churches, sugar cane, riverboats etc.
