On the 1st of December 2012, the PYHS will proudly launch not one but two special exhibitions in the Old Kirk. They have been curated by Debrah Novak, a member of PYHS and well known local photographer.

The first one is Osric Notley – From Bush to Beach. Osric, a local surf lifesaver from Yamba, lived in Maclean and took Australia’s first surfing photo featuring Tommy Walker. Osric also won a couple of local photographic awards and ventured out of Yamba to Angourie and the bush to take some stunning landscape photos and of his family. On the 26th December 100 years ago, Osric and a few other lifesavers were involved in a rescue on Main Beach where one man drowned.

The second exhibition is Surfing Angourie – 1950’s & Beyond. Fifty photos have been selected from public submissions to represent the surfing lifestyle of this period.

Members, Friends of the Museum and PHYS Music Club are invited to attend the official opening of these exciting exhibitions on Saturday 1st December at 6pm. Please phone if you will be attending to help us with catering arrangements. The exhibitions will be open to the public from 2 December until the end of January 2013. A fee of just $5 includes entry to the Museum as well as these special exhibitions.
