The artworks, and accompanying quotes by colonial botanist William Carron, featured in this exhibition, depict the plants, which he discovered while accompanying explorer Edmund Kennedy on his epic journey through northern Australia in 1848.

Following in his footsteps in 2012, Janet Hauser, botanical artist and husband from Iluka retraced the expedition route through Cape York, where Janet located and painted Carron’s botanical discoveries with references from his and Kennedy’s maps and diaries.

Janet says, “It is my intention in creating this exhibition to present from a botanical, art perspective, the story of the man William Carron and to bring to the viewer’s attention his contributions to botanical science and his connection to the Clarence Valley and also to the conservation of northern New South Wales forests”.

Opens: 13 August – 3 September 2017
