The Whizzes of Oz
Dec 2014 – Mar 2015
An exploration of our nation‘s most ingenious Whizzes and how they turned a bright idea into a clothesline, a lawn mower, Vegemite, the pacemaker, dual flush toilets and even mousetraps.
Visitors will experience these stories and gain a greater understanding of clever Aussies who have worked, collaborated, adapted, taken risks, and solved problems in the pursuit of inventing something new.
Some spread Vegemite on toast and others smear it between crackers and press together to create squiggly worms but Julie Gould paints with it. Julie first dipped her brush into the black, sticky spread in 1985 when she was a student and has not looked back. Her beautiful portraits and artworks will feature in the exhibition.
