About Us
Yamba Museum – also known as The Story House – is proudly operated by the Port of Yamba Historical Society, a volunteer-run organisation dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing the stories of Yamba and the Lower Clarence River region.

Founded in 1981, the museum celebrates the area’s rich maritime heritage, early European settlement, and the deep cultural connections of the Yaegl people, the Traditional Owners of the Clarence Valley.

Our displays capture the spirit of a seaside town shaped by the river, the ocean and its people — from the early days of river transport and fishing, to surf lifesaving, tourism and community life.

We are also home to the Yaegl Cultural Garden, a collaborative project with the Yaegl community featuring mosaics, totems, yarning circles and language poles that honour Yaegl culture and connection to Country.

The museum continues to grow thanks to our dedicated volunteers and supporters, who ensure Yamba’s history is preserved for future generations.

Donations
Donations play a vital role in helping us maintain our collection and expand our programs. We handle donated objects with great care, ensuring they are properly recorded, preserved and—where appropriate—shared with the public through exhibitions. Learn more >>

Research
The museum offers research assistance for those exploring family histories, local stories or regional development. Our archives include photographs, documents, maps and oral histories that shed light on Yamba’s past. While volunteers manage requests as time allows, we are always happy to help guide researchers to the resources that can best support their work. Learn more>>
